5.7.3 Managing administrative data - P-codes

Place codes or Position codes (P-codes) are unique geographic identification codes that are often used to designate administrative unit (district, region, municipality, state, etc.). You should therefore check whether there is an existing and available database of P-codes for the territory you are working in. This page of OCHA IM Toolbox provides great information on how to create and use P-codes in humanitarian activity. P-codes are also mainly used for geographical analysis (GIS).

As P-codes often refer to administrative levels, such as cascading lists, both are frequently combined in XLSForm. In the “cascading lists” sheet of the Cheat sheet you can find a tutorial on how to include P-codes in your XLSForm to import the output data correctly.
